@mary_green_lois, your screenshot shows you are in Photoshop CC.  If you want to continue using that program, I suggest you post in the Photoshop Ecosystem forum.

There is a much simpler way to change the shirt color in Photoshop Elements 2024:  use the Enhance>Adjust Color>Color Replacement tool.  The image will appear in a new dialog.  Here, you can use the color picker/eyedrop tools to find the color you want to replace.  The selected color will show up in a selection box.  You can then use the hue/saturation/lightness sliders or the color picker to find your desired color:

Photoshop Elements 2025 has a new color replacement tool that uses the various selection tools to select the color to replace.

Unfortunately, I don't have PS ELements. I have PS and LR. But, amazingly,
I figured out what I needed and "goterdun"! Thanks.

@mary_green_lois, Neural Filters are recent features that generally use Artificial Intelligence to create amazing effects.  They are found in Photoshop (Creative Cloud) under the Filters menu.  To use a particular filter, click on the toggle switch that appears next to the filter.  A panel with various options will then open up.

I gave up on that previous project. Hopefully someone on fiverr can do it for me. I really wish I could learn this program, but I'm not doing very well. Now I have a new project that should be much simpler, but I got stuck again. All I want to do is change the shirt color from red to periwinkle. Surely that would be simple, but somehow I did something to block me from finding the quick selection tool. Earlier when I first added this picture I found the quick selection tool, but didn't figure out how to add the part within the necklace. So I decided I'd do each selection separately by carefully being sure I chose the exact same color numbers for the smaller section. That's when I got to the point shown and lost the ability to choose the quick selection tool.

I also tried to use lightroom, but was unable to figure out how to import the photo.

Your best bet is to use the Neural Filters in Photoshop to colorize your photos.  Here, it took me a few clicks to colorize your photo, remove the background wires and add some green leaves to the background using Generative AI.:

What are neural filters and where do I find them?

@mary_green_lois I beieve the colorization feature discussed in this thread was introduced in Elements 2020.  You say that you have Photoshop.  Are you talking about an old CS version or the current subscription version?  The current Photoshop Creative Cloud version has far superior colorization tools than the current Photoshop Elements.  Photoshop Elements 2025 has introduced a feature that makes it easy to change the color of any object (or selection) in a grayscale or color photo.  Depending on your project, that may produce better results than using the B&W colorization tool in Elements.

I'm hoping someone's comment will help me use colorization on b/w photo of man. I have a color photo to use to set correct skin. Is this where I should be posting? I'm brand new to this

When I try it, i am prompted that it only works with rgb documents, do you want to change it?  I've never had any issues with it.
