Question

colors look different in PSE 15 vs Desktop or email

Hi,  I'm having a problem. My usual procedure is, I have a RAW image I edit in Elements Editor, convert to jpg using "Save for Web" with Embed Color Profile checked.

When the jpg is viewed in Organizer it looks the way I like but when it is viewed on my Desktop or in an email it looks different, becoming too warm & saturated. Does anyone know why this is happening and more importantly, know how to fix this ?  I'm  running Windows 10 Pro ( with the option at startup of using Windows 7 Pro, my monitor is a Dell U2410 ( left at default settings ) , PSE 15 Color Settings are at "Always Optimize Colors for Computer Screens". This problem occurs with or without hardware color calibration. My computer was hardware calibrated previously. I was using Datacolor Spyder2Pro for sometime and everything was OK. I switched to Colormunki Smile recently (it's made for Windows 10 ). The new color profile is loading properly, I see it in my computer settings and more obviously each time I start my PC. But since I get the jpg color "shift" problem with and without calibration software I uninstalled it. And I'm quite certain in Windows Settings for the Display it is back to default. Sorry if I'm rambling. Hope someone can help. Thanks, Glenn.

It’s usually best to save jpegs with the sRGB profile for consistency across desktop and web on computers/devices. The only time I would embed a special profile would be if sending to a printer or a print lab. A special profile contains the combination of printer/ink/paper.

    Hi 99jon,

Thanks. I hope to install Colormunki Smile shortly and set it up as the default profile. I set Color Settings to Always Optimize Colors For Computer Screens, right ? Is there something else I'm missing ?

Yes that is correct and when you use save for web the sRGB profile gets embedded. Calibration will ensure consistency especially if using more than one machine e.g. laptop plus desktop. Display monitors do change over time so you will need to calibrate on a regular basis.
