Compatibility issue between Photoshop Elements 9 and Nikon D500

Hi,

I just bought the Nikon D500 (which is fabulous, btw) and Photoshop Elements 9 does not recognize the raw files (NEF) it generates. Could anyone give me the info about any plugins I should use to solve this issue? Last time this happened, I had to download a new version of Photoshop Elements and lost all my catalogs. Had to create them all again which was extremely time consuming. I would like to avoid this situation again, if possible.

Thanks!

Carole

You can use the adobe dng converter to convert the D 500 nefs to dng copies which should then open in pse 9.

    windows

Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Adobe DNG Converter 9.12.1

    mac

Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Adobe DNG Converter 9.12.1

    how to use dng converter

    Adobe Digital Negative Converter 9.x

    Merry Christmas!

I followed your suggestion to convert my files with dng and today, instead of just looking at my pictures (which works fine, thank you!), I tried modifying them (they now appear as NEF files on my computer, which is perfect) and Photoshop Element 9 does not recognize them. I find it really weird that the viewing part works fine and that the modifying section tells me it does not recognize the same files?

Any suggestions before I give up and download Elements 2018?...

    Thanks in advance!

You can only view and modify the dng files in pse 9.

The dngs are just copies of the original nef files, so you probably have both still on your computer and it helps when editing if the dngs are in a separate folder from the nefs so you don't confuse the two.

Try opening another dng, changing some settings, and close camera raw.

Now open the same dng and you should see your changes.
