Conversion from PC to Mac - how to solve the problem of the backup folder containing too many files?

I am converting from PC to Mac. My catalogue contains 80,000 photos. I followed the process recommended by Adobe, by using Backup to create a backup folder on an external hard drive.

The number of files that Backup creates on the drive is 272,000 (for 80,000 photos).

My problem is that when I mount the drive on the Mac, the Mac does not see the contents of backup folder (too many files). The contents of the backup folder are visible on the PC. I created a test catalogue of 10 files only, when I backup this, it works fine, and I can restore on the Mac.

Any ideas as to how to move my catalogue from PC to Mac would be appreciated.
