Could not save copy as "Test.jpg" because there is not enough memory (RAM)

I have accessed the Adobe chat line, and raised this issue, but the chat session was abruptly terminated with an instruction referring me to this forum. I can't help feeling somewhat aggrieved, having paid for a product only to fine that there is no technical support for it at the end of a phone line.

However...

I have Windows 10 on a 64 bit computer with 4MB of RAM. Photoshop Elements 15 is installed. I have looked elsewhere on this forum, and seen advice about changing the registry in such cases.

One item suggested that I open PSE and access Edit/Preferences/Performance.  When I do this the Photoshop programme simply closes down. I can restart it, but the same happens every time I attempt to access "Performance".

Can anyone please help? If so, please keep it simple and explain any technical points for a lay person?

    And by the way the problem is caused by a Windows 10 upgrade. Windows 10 changes constantly, not like older systems. One price of this is you are often going to need new apps. “Buy and use for years” is on its way out.

    OK, it says to back up the registry manually I have to select the file I want to back up. How the *** do I know which one that is?

    Windows 10, 8.1, or 8

    Back up the registry manually, or create a system restore point.
    Back up the registry manually
    1. From the Start menu, type regedit.exe in the search box, and then press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. In Registry Editor, locate and click the registry key or subkey that you want to back up.
    3. Click File > Export.
    4. In the Export Registry File dialog box, select the location to which you want to save the backup copy, and then type a name for the backup file in the File name field.
    5. Click Save.

    There are loads of HKEY folders, each containing loads of files. I wish that these technical solutions would be a wee bit more specific about which is a registry file, and what to back up. It's a shame that Microsoft doesn't just provide a "backup my registry" function.

    Upgrade not update. I think you just buy the latest.

    Most likely pse 15 is being affected by a bug in windows 10 1803 spring creators update.

    The solution is to edit the windows registry as explained in the below adobe kb:

    Error: An integer between 50 and 8 is required | Elements | Windows 10

    Thanks. I have followed the instructions. The online instructions on how to save the registry file were really inadequate, as there are scores of files and therewas no guidance as to which one ought to save.

    BTW the instructions pertain to PSE 16, not 15, which I have. I assume that's ok though.

    The instructions also referred to machines with  8GB or more. I only have 4GB RAM. Could that be the problem? Especially since I still get the error message despite having change the file in the registry... so the problem is unfortunately not resolved, despite all the guidance....

    Did you follow the advice to change the registry? If you don’t like the sound of this, I believe the layest upgrade should avoid this problem, if it’s the same one.

    Hello.

    Do you mean the latest upgrade to Windows 10? I have it set to update automatically, so should have the latest version.

    If you mean an update to Photoshop Elements, could you please explain how one does that?
