Crashing - PSE 2018 on 10.13 While using layers tools

I am trying to remove backgrounds for some photos and Elements keeps crashing while using the "refine edge" tool. Wondering if this is a common problem with OSX.

I am brand new to elements - this is literally the first task I've ever tried w PSE - nearly completed several times and program quit.

I just purchased and installed PSE two days ago (download). Can't figure out how to retrieve crash report. Several of the tips i've seen involve erasing libraries that in my case don't have anything in them b/c brand new.

Late 2013 iMac w/ 10.13.1, tons of memory, 8G RAM, no other issues with the computer. Thanks.
