Cropped raw compared to jpg in Elements 2022 when opening cr3 from Canon SX70

Hi,

just got a Canon SX70, i use Photoshop Elements 2022, Windows 11, no new updates for Elements 22. I save pic files as jpg and raw. When i open the raw version in Elements, it is slightly cropped compared to the jpg version, there are some pixels missing on all sides. Tried to change crop options when opening raw (as original), did not help.

When i open the raw files in other apps (Irfanview or a Canon program), there is no crop.

Looks like the difference is that Camera Raw is applying the built-in lens profile included in the cr3.

Unfortunately, one would not be able to see this in the photoshop elements version of camera raw because

it doesn't have a Optics tab.

You can see this in the photoshop version of camera raw which does have a Optics profile tab.

So what should I do? I do not want a 22mm wide angle if 21 is possible ... and neither a forced digital zoom of about 1.01x at all focal lenghts. There goes the workflow that I got used to over the years ...

. . . I think I may need to modify my response, because on closer inspection my jpeg/raw files have different pixel dimensions. And strangely, the jpegs are bigger, even though they have been compressed. So, disregard my last response, although I have never noticed any cropping. I'm going to ping @Jeff Arola, another Community Expert, who may have a better explanation.

It is a slight difference - and because the pixel dimensions are the same in raw and jpg (both 5184x3888), there is a small stretching of the image, resulting in a deterioration of quality.

I beileve what you are seeing is simply a difference in the thumbnail presentation for jpeg/raw photos. I have always noticed that difference when importing the files via the Photo Downloader. However, I believe if you open the files in the Editor, the correct pixel dimensions will be there. Are you seeing something different in the actual files?
