And here is one last, and more obvious, suggestion.  Rename the files with a date prefix yyyymmdd,  You can place your genealogy files in a separate folder or album and then use the Sort By: File Name to view them in chronological order.

And one other thought:  Create an album for each period you are interested in defining and order the files chronologically in the Album Order, if that is what you want.

The only suggestion I have is to give the date an unknown (????) year. I believe that will display the image as the earliest chronologically.  You may want to then devise a Month and Day scheme that willl fit the years or decades you are interested in recording.  For example, ???? May 1 could equal the first decade of the 16th Century.   ???? April 6 would be 1460 - 1469. 

Just a thought - and don't trust my math.

And, of course, you can record the exact date in a caption or note.

Apparently it's a limitation of the operating system:

I'm using a Mac and can't go earlier than 1601 either.
