Deactivate Auto Sync

Elements Organiser 2025 has an Auto Sync (Beta) feature that I am unable to deactivate: the Auto Sync preferences settings are always being reset to on! Is there a fix to stop uploading and deactivate Auto Sync? If so, how can I apply it - my update option is greyed-out!

Correct answer Greg_S.

Here are a couple of suggestions that may help:

1.    The easy one:

  • Go to File>Manage Catalogs and create a new catalog.
  • Open the new catalog
  • Go to Edit>Preferences>Auto sync and turn off the auto sync options.
  • Close and relaunch the Organizer to confirm that the auto sync remains off.
  • Go back to File>Manage Catalogs and open your main catalog.  Hopefully, the preferences remain sticky and the auto sync option will remain off.

2.  The geeky one:

  • Quit the Organizer.
  • In WIndows File Explorer, open the location: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\25.0\CAHeadless\
  • Open the file named AutoCreatorPrefs.xml in a text editor like WordPad
  • In the text that you see after <AutoSync> check that Photos and Videos values are set as true.  Change this text to false so that it reads as follows:

(<AutoSync version="1"><Photos value="false"/><Videos value="false"/><FullResDownload value="false"/></AutoSync>)

  • Make sure that the file is saved with its original name.
  • Open the Organizer and hopefully, the auto sync preferences will be set to off.

Hey, no problem! I am staying with English... my German is still a bit suspicious!

Thanks for letting us know that it worked for you.  BTW, are you using a non-English language version of the program?

Hey wow Greg_S,

thanks for you rapid response and inspired sugestions... and it worked!

Editing the AutoCreatorPrefs.xml has stopped the Auto Sync and I am happy 😊

I hope this will also help anyone else who is not happy to have his lifestory held somewhere in the cloud!

Again thanks and keep up the good work!

Peter

This was a problem that existed with Elements 2024 and I thought it had been fixed with Elements 2025.  I don't have time to find a possible solution for you right now (and it will involve editing one of the preferences files).  So I suggest you try contacting Elements support. You can start a chat session by going to the Contact Adobe Support page. (https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?rghtup=autoOpen) Make sure you are signed into your Adobe account and try typing Agent when the chat window opens. (If you use my link, the chat window should open automatically.)

When I am back at my computer tonight, I will try to find the geeky solution for you.  Please let me know if you are able to get a solution from Adobe Support in the meantime.
