Default Printers

Question

My Canon 6550 died and I replaced it with an ix6850. Word, Acrobat and browsers recognise and print to it in Windows 10 but Elements 13 refuses to print. It produces messages such as " default printer could not be opened" or "requested printer does not exist". It will not even send print to pdf printer or one-note. I checked for updates but all OK.

iI tried my Elements 9 but since Creator Edition the drop down menus do not work.

My only option is to save my prints and use Canon Image Garden.

Any ideas?
