Disconnected theme files (again)

This has been asked before, but never answered, and those threads are locked. For example:

My Win10 PC had PSE 2019 (with ElementsPlus in case that matters). I reconnected all files and did a backup to a USB drive. On my new PC I installed PSE 2026 and restored the backup. Everything was successful except that in the new version Reconnect Files says there are some missing files: theme1.theme, theme2.theme…theme6.theme. These do not exist on my disk, and they do not appear anywhere in my Catalog’s Organizer screen so cannot be removed (as suggested in other answers). I searched the contents of all the XMP files for the text “theme” and they don’t appear there either.

I suspect they are now there forever but a solution to this, and one that I think would be generally helpful anyway, would be if the Reconnect > All missing files > [Browse] screen included an option “Delete from Catalog” as well as the existing “Reconnect”. At the moment if you want to delete the link to the missing file you have to manually locate it in the Organizer screen to delete it, and that isn’t very convenient.

Either that or you provide a mechanism to delete the theme files from my Catalog (even if it’s a stand-alone, downloadable program).

Themes in Organizer are pre made templates/layouts  that you can choose from- they have nothing to do with the contents  of any catalogue.

If you are missing themes:   Simply log out of the editor.   Uninstall the editor.  Reinstall the editor using the links found in your Adobe account.

“. On my new PC I installed PSE 2026 and restored the backup”   How did you restore the backup?

It’s a brand new install already. I backed up two catalogs in my PSE2019 using the option in Organizer to Backup Catalog (and that ran a check for missing files and didn’t find any). I restored in PSE2026 using the Organizer option to Restore Catalog. One of them is fine. The other has disconnected theme files.

The backup from PSE2019 has definitely included something in its catalog file that shouldn’t be there.

I haven’t played with the Editor at all yet.

    I’ve fixed it!

I went in to PSE2019 to find where themes were used (as I had never used them before) and it’s in “Create Slideshow”, where I can see exactly the same files that PSE2026 flags as missing.

So I went in to PSE2026, selected a few pictures, right-clicked and selected “Create Slideshow”. There I can see the same pictures that were missing. I clicked “Back” without even bothering to save the slideshow and re-ran Reconnect. Now it finds no missing files!

While looking at that I was also running a SuperFinderXT search for “theme” in the backup folder and it found it. Opening (but not saving!!) catalog.buc in Notepad++ I search for “theme1.theme” and it was there. So the backup DOES reference the theme files.
