Double Click to Draw or No Pen Pressure?

I'm using Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 (V. 12.1)

I have to double click in order to use any tools, and as soon as I fix that issue I lose pen pressure sensitivity. I went back and forth, fixing one problem but having to deal with the other problem. After a fruitless search for Adobe customer support, these forums seem like the best option. Please share any suggestions you may have. I'd love to be able to draw again.
