Download Photoshop Elements to a New Computer

I have Version 21.0 of Photoshop Elements (registered Nov. 15, 2022).  The computer on which it was originally downloaded to (installed on) crashed and I now have a new computer. How can I transfer the software to my new computer?

Greg, I will try installing the 32 bit version as you have suggested.

Have you installed the 32 bit version of the Microsoft Visual Studio download that I linked for you?

I’m guessing that you have not done so, in which case Phinny’s advice to modify the installation won’t work.  Although I can’t say for sure, I believe the installer that is getting stuck is 32 bit and needs the 32 bit version of the Microsoft Visual 2013 application to work.  I always recommend installing both.  (You don’t need the ARM version unless your computer has an ARM processor.)

    Hi Glenn,

I have followed all of your steps, and have tried numerous times. The best I can do is  to get to 87% on the installation and then it stops and an error message comes up:

    Under CustomHook_HD_EO.exe - System Error

“The code execution cannot proceed because MSVCR120.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem”

Several tries at reinstalling have not worked?

    What to do next?

Update Windows, in particular Visual C++:

Download it from the Products page of your Adobe account.  If you have any trouble installing it, download and install the Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 version.

If you use the Organizer, look at this Help article which explains how to transfer your catalog information to the new computer (if you have your photos backed up somewhere).

    Hello Greg,

Installing won’t work, I have tried several times and the installation gets to a certain % and then stops with the error message 183. I have tried the suggested solutions for this error but none seem to work. Regarding your suggesting of installing Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 version, do I need to install all 3 files listed, or if just one, which one?

The 183 error message is typically due to a  couple of things:   Not having the 2013 visual studio installed (tons of programs use it), don’t go thinking “Well I’ll just install the 2024 version, it’s newer and better” or your anti- virus is interfering - typically making it to the 83% mark.

FIRST:  download and install the 64 bit version of the 2013 redistributable.

SECOND:  turn off your anti virus

    THIRD:  reinstall pse.
