Question

Downloading photos is slow

I have had Adobe Photoshop Elements for many years, 40 or more.  I remember downloading a memory stick full of photos and transferring them into my Photoshop in a minute.  Today I download one photo from my camera and it takes minutes to transfer it to Photoshop.  Why?  What can I do to improve it?

Thank you.

Greg asked a bunch of good questions.

I have a card reader built into my computer.  I use an external card reader:   I plug it into  a USB3 port- which is 10 times faster that older usb ports.  usb3 ports have a blue tab in them.

I have a camera that can upload images via wireless connection.  Bluetooth 1, to 3 is pretty slow:  only about 2mb per second- I never use it- I take the chip out and stick it in my external card reader, which is plugged into a usb3 port.

What OS and version of Elements are you using?  (Elements is only about 23 years old.)

How are you importing the files?  From a camera, a card reader, from files and folders?  Are you using an internal card reader or via a USB port?

How large is your catalog?

What is the resolution and format of the file you are importing?

I agree with Greg. Also have you updated your computer? The programs take up more memory and ram to run.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
