Question

Duplicate "People" Identifier Files

I used Photoshop Elements 13 on my iMac to edit photos in iPhoto, but when I upgraded to Sierra, iPhoto began acting funny and, since Apple no longer supports iPhoto and its replacement app, Photos, makes it difficult to edit with Elements, I decided to import all my photos into Organizer (another task made difficult by Photos!). Anyway, once I cleanly imported my 9,000 photos, I set about creating "people" identifier files with Organizer's facial recognition system. Due to some typing errors, I created several duplicate files. For instance, I ended up with two "Mike V" files, both with different photos, but of the same "Mike V." Is there some way to combine the duplicate "Mike V" identifier files into one "Mike V" file without losing any of the photos from the catalog (what appears will happen if I simply delete one of the duplicate files)? Tech support sent me to this forum because they thought the only way it can be done in Elements 13 is to slightly modify the photos in one of the duplicate files so they can be considered "new" by facial recognition system; then they can be added to the "Mike V" identifier file I keep.

    Hi,

    When you say:

Is there some way to combine the duplicate "Mike V" identifier files into one "Mike V" file without losing any of the photos from the catalog (what appears will happen if I simply delete one of the duplicate files)?

my understanding of your "identifier files" is  the people stack created in Named People room with the name Mike V.

If so, then yes , there is a way of merging the two stacks. Simply select the stacks in Named people view you want to merge by holding down the Cmd key. After you have selected them, look out for  "Merge People" option at the bottom panel and click it. It will ask you for the name again where you can enter this name.

Further, this help article would be helpful to you: Marking faces in photos in Elements Organizer

    Thanks,

    Arshia—

Thanks for the link to the article, but the “Stack” option under the “Edit" tab in Photoshop Elements 13 for Mac stays gray (non-functional) no matter how I select the duplicate people identifier files. I think I may have to note the photos in the duplicate files, delete the files and import the deleted photos I noted back into my main catalog from the master file folder of photos on my desktop that I had to create by exporting from Apple Photos before I could then import them into Organizer. Somewhat tedious, but there are only about six duplicate files.

    Hi Mike,

You can't use Edit> Stack option in People' room.

Please go through the following video to understand what I meant you to do in my last reply.

I hope this will resolve your query.

    Thanks,

    Arshla
