Editing and Saving Metadata using Organizer or Elements

I want to edit the metadata to my image file (.HEIC or .jpeg) to add a caption or description.  In Organizer, I add the text to the Caption field in General Information.  Then use File->Save Metadata to files.  A .xmp version of the image file is created.  In Elements Editor, I click File Info on the image then add text to the Description field.  When I save the changes a .psd version of the image file is created.

How can I save the metadata to the original image file?

.HEIC files don't allow writing metadata to the file itself, hence an .xmp sidecar file is created for that additional metadata.  In Organizer, working with a .jpeg file, adding meta then saving / exporting the file won't create an .xmp file and does include your new meta in the file (as Caption-Abstract).   Working with a .HEIC file in Organizer, you can make your meta changes, then export as filetype jpeg to save the metadata to the new  file.
