Element 2025 causes PC reboot when opening RAW photo file

Elements 2025 (w/ raw 17 plug in) causes PC to reboot when opening RAW photo file. Elements is installed on new DELL Optiplex 7020 having intel UHD graphics 770, i7-14700 20 core 14th gen CPU, and 32 Gb ram. Dell start-up wizird updated all drivers and MS updated to latest Win 11 pro at time of initial set up. Why does photoshop not work on a brade new high end PC? What can I do at this point to remedy this issue? Thanks, Jordan

Yes, it looks like a graphics driver issue. Even a brand new computer can have an out-dated graphics driver. And Dell may have some proprietary driver too.

I suspect it's the intergrated graphics chip. Other users in other forums have reported issues with the v-sync setting (Which apparently cannot be turned off in some bios settings).

Intel has issued the latest driver only about 8 days ago, ensure you isntall that.

Have you installed ACR from the Help menu?

What camera or smartphone generated the raw file?

Are you using the Organizer? If so, have you created a new catalog or converted an old one? How many media files are in the catalog?

Can you open a jpeg file in ACR, using File>Open in Camera Raw?

Thanks Greg for quick reply.

I have installed ACR version 17.0.0.2043 from help menu.

Raw files are from Canon 6D MKII as .CR2 file and Canon R8 as .CR3 file extension.

Organizer has 71 files unintentionally as MS One Drive cloud started to populate it before I paused it till later.

The PC reboots even when opening a JPG via Elements "open in camera raw" file command.

No doubt this is a graphics card issue eventhough the kid at the store said this PC met the Adobe specs. Now the question is: can the system be enhanced/modified to do what I need?

This is probably your motherboard: You have 1 PCI slot (the blue one near the bottom of the picture)- you could plug a half height video card (Assuming you have small form factor case (the skinny one) into that. A reasonble one that would fit is about $160. RTX 3050 OC (low profile) would fit and is a very resonably priced card. If you have the regular full sized case buy whatever you like. I have an RTX 3060 with 12 GB of ram- it really works nicely for me.

MAny video cards require dedicated power from the main power supply- make sure you have a free cable hanging down from your main power supply. Many power supply cables for video cards with have two plugs on the end of the cable: they are indexed so that you can't plug them in incorrectly.

Above the pci slot is another shorter slot- the short black one: my motherbaord has one. I have a sata controller card plugged into it so I can have more hard drives internally.

A NOTE ABOUT PCI DEVICES: They are all backward commpatible: if the video card says "requires pci 3.0" and you slot is only 2.0 you have zero worries.

My only concern is the location of the pci slot on the motherboard. I don't know how the motherboard is mouted in it's case- quite often there is very little room the spare. Always ensure the length, width, and height of whatever video card will fit into what you have.
