Elements 14 won't close or allow usage

After using Elements 14 in Expert mode, it will NOT allow me to use any feature of it, close it, exit it, or open new task.  It will allow me to click the drop down menu, but most of the choices are "greyed" out. 

The only thing I see different is  red "2" in the eLIVE area at the top of the page.
