Elements 15 and Camera Raw
This is a strange problem and I hope someone who has run into this has the answer.
My Canon camera (Powershot G7X) is set to "raw + jpg" for all my photos.
Many of my photos are taken with the photo size set to 16 x 9.
With each photo I take, the jpg image is 16 x 9 and the raw image is "full frame" 3 x 2.
When I open the raw (CR2) file in Elements 15, the photo is shown as 16 x 9 but the cropped part is visible but greyed out. This is normal because it's telling me I took the photo as a 16 x 9 but since CR2 records the entire sensor output, this is what was cropped.
I can click on the 'crop' icon in the camera raw menu and slide the crop lines up and down to select the entire photo for editing in Elements 15. I've done this a thousand times.
While on a recent vacation, I used my Powershot S100 to take raw+jpg photos. This camera is supported by the v9.10.0.739 Camera Raw software installed.
On my file management software, I can see both photos. The raw photo is 3 x 2 and the jpg is 16 x 9.
When I double-click on the raw file, it opens in the Elements 15 Camera Raw window. But now I see the photo only as a 16 x 9 with no grayed-out portions of the 3 x 2 cropped sensor original. Clicking on the crop icon does nothing because there's nothing shown to increase the photo to the original 3 x 2.
I know the raw file is in 3 x 2 because I can see the photo in my file management software, but when it's opened in Elements 15 Camera Raw, it's only visible as a 16 x 9 and can't be changed.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, did you find a fix for this?
Thanks so much for your help and time.
