Elements 15 - Remove Background 'dust'

Hi There,

Really sorry if this has been answered before but I did have a good search and couldn't find it.

I have Photoshop Elements 15 and am trying to remove the background from a load of product photos. After using the remove background tool I am finding that these images still have a sort of dust around them which becomes visible when I put them on a colour background.

I am using the background eraser tool and the hardness of my brush is at 100%. I am also going around the object a good few times with the tool. The limits is set to Contiguous and tolerance is at 20 - 30.

Here is an example of what I'm talking about:

Please, Please, Please can someone tell me where I'm going wrong?

Thank you

You might get better results with these methods, especially if the objects have sharp well-defined edges as in the case of your tape measure.

    1. Use the Magnetic Lasso to select the object, then copy the the selection to the clipboard (Edit > Copy).

Open the background picture and paste from the clipboard (Edit > Paste). Yhe object will be placed on a new layer.

    2. If the object is on a uniform background (e.g., white or any solid color), use the Magic Wand with the Contiguous option to select the background. Invert the selection so that the object is now selected and copy/paste as in the first example.
