Elements 2018 Nikon Z7 .NEF files can not be opened

Hello,

I just installed Photoshop Elements 2018 on my Apple computer, OS 10.14.3.

I installed all the updates for Elements 2018.

When trying to open a Nikon NEF file from my Z7 I receive this message:

PR can not open this file.  If you are attempting to open a raw file from a digital camera, make sure you have the latest Camera Raw update installed via help.... Updates.  If the problem persists visit the following link for more information: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407111

When I follow the link I can see that my camera  (Nikon Z7) is supported.

So, I do not see a reason why PE does not open my NEF files, I tried big and small files, directly copied from my camera to my computer (without any transfer applications).  Does not work.

Does anyone has a solution?

Thank you for helping.

Guido

No, the Z7 requires the ACR version 11, which is only available from PSE2019, after updating ACR from the Help menu.

Simple rule:

Each new camera comes with its own new format, so, if the software (not only Adobe) is older than the camera model, it can't be supported. You have to check if the software version can be updated. Two steps: check the ACR version, then check the ACR version compatibility with the ACR version.

FAQ: Will Photoshop Elements work with my camera, or Why won't my raw files open?

If you can't update the software, your free option is do download the free Adobe DNGconverter mentionned in the above faq. It will convert a whole folder of raw files to the DNG raw format that your old version can read and edit. Another batch step, but free with the same quality.
