I have recently installed Elements 2018 and wish to create a slide show.

I insert my photos as per instructions but when the slide show plays all I see is a black screen, and the music plays.

also I do not appear to have any control over the slide display. What is the solution?

I usually create an album with the images I want to use otherwise Organizer will try to collect your best photos from the entire catalog.

Choose the album and click the slideshow button on the bottom toolbar. Click Use All Media.

Top left on the sidebar are three tabs: Media, Themes & Music.

In the media tab you can right click on the title slide and edit it e.g. Change the word memories and the date. Or you can remove the title slide completely.

Under themes I often use Pan & Zoom which provides a bit of movement but not too much. Choose the preferred theme and click Apply

Select your track from the Music tab or click the plus icon to add tracks from your computer

Click the play button to preview. You can save as a mp4 file for upload to YouTube or vimeo etc.

You can start an impromptu slideshow by selecting an album or other source and pressing F11 followed by play.

thanks for the tips - there are still some things I can't figure out -- eg. if I want to move the slides around, I seem to be unable to do that -- in other programs you can just grab the slide and move it into the place you want it.  I had thought there was an "editing" bar somewhere but it's not showing up - any ideas?

I'm on a mac btw.

thanks for any suggestions

There are two methods.

  1. You can arrange before you start the slideshow within an album. Normally the sort order is set to newest or oldest but you can change to Album Order. Each image gets a fixed numbered position and you can drag thumbnails around to change the order and the fixed positions.
  2. You can also re-arrange within the slideshow by clicking the media tab (top-left) and dragging thumbnails.
