Elements 2020 not saving or opening files

On a Mac OS 10.15.7 w/ paid version of elements 2020.

All photo editing tools work, but cannot save, save-as, or save for web for any file. Save and save-as don't even bring up a dialog box. Save for web does, but clicking "save" just closes it.

App shows "program error" when using open command. Printing actually works though.

Tried reinstalling app but nothing changed.
