It’s not a good idea to reference the same photos in Organizer and the Photos App. This can lead to file corruption. The simplest method is to export copies from the Photos app to the desktop or preferably named folders. Then import them to Organizer. You can also import keywords & titles etc.

Select a batch of thumbnails and use the Photos menu:

    File >> Export

    There are two choices

    • unmodified originals
    • export number of photos

Use the latter method unless you specifically wish to discard your editing work in the Photos app.

In the export dialog check the boxes to include keywords and titles (descriptions) and optionally location data. See image below.

In Organizer click Import Photos & Videos >> From Files & Folders then navigate to your new folder to select the items to import.

I have the exact same issue - I'm importing from a regular folder, the photos seem to be imported and I can see them at first, but after a whil they just seem to disappear. see pic attached. And I'm sure it's not a filter (I have All Media selected). and Rebuilding the catalog does nothing 😞

I can see that they are in there because if I select "Places" I see the miniatures, but when I try to click on those the main window always stays empty. I can also tell that the pics have been imported because when I import them again, Organizer tells me that it didn't import any because they are already imported

If I had placed a filter it would make sense, but I haven't.

I have also disabled al face recognition and automated metatag detection but with no luck. And did I mention I have rebuilt the catalog a million times?

I'm on Mac so I thought about perms and I have allowed Organizer perms to the whole disk

    I'm fairly desperate

    Any other suggestion anyone?

    thanks in advance!

OK. Sorry. I figured what it was, and I hope it can help others.

for some unknown reason, the Organizer automatically unselected the Photos,  Videos, Audio from the datatypes (only Projects were left visible).

So i just went to the "View" menu, and re-enabled the Photos, Videos and Audio files from the Data Types submenu. magically everything reappeared 🙂

    cheers!

It says.  0 media files were skipped because they are all ready present in the catalog

Could you post the full, complete error message?

I don't know anything about Macs except that you can expect a lot of mysteries with Catalina.

But, there is never a message saying ONLY that the photos are already in the catalog, it generally says that it's that or that files are corrupt.

The organizer is built to recognize files on your computer in  authorized locations for Catalina, not files managed by Apple Photos libraries.

First thing to check, try importing files directly stored on your computer. Mac experts will come to your help, be patient...
