Elements 2022 Organizer not showing in Windows 10 as choice to be default app to open/view new files

I've upgraded from Elements 12 to 2022. In Windows 10 I had previously made Elements 12 my default app to open and initially view new pics from sd cards. Using Windows 10 control panel to attempt to change this default to 2022 version of Organizer, the drop down menu shows 2022 Editor as a choice but not 2022 Organizer. Elements 12 is still shown as well as other non Adobe choices.   How do I add 2022 Organizer to the available choices.

Jim, you still haven't told us what your workflow is or why you want to use the Open With command to get to the Organizer.

And nobody has said anything about removing .exe files.  Each version of Elements is a separate program that is fully independent.  If you are happy with Elements 2022, you can remove Elements 12 from your machine.  The only practical purpose for keeping it would be if you like the old Slideshow tool that was available in the Organizer.  Many users prefer it to the one that has been available in the last few versions of the program.

Michel and Walter, it works for me every time.  I just tried it with the Organizer closed and using the Open With command on a jpeg file that was already in my catalog.  As expected, the Organizer opened and I got the following message:

However, having said that, I see that it is necessary to navigate to the .exe file each time.  Choosing the Elements 2022 Organizer does not remain sticky in the Open With dialog.   But I do have the Elements 2018 Organizer as a choice:

It's not clear from Jim's post whether he still has the Elements 12 Organizer available in this Open With list.  But if he does, this may explain why neither of us can add a second Organizer version to the list.

Hi, Yes, I have Elements 12 Organizer and Elements 2022 Editor available as" Open with" and as "default apps" to select in control panel settings... but not 2022 Organizer. I can launch 2022 (Editor and Organizer) from a shortcut directly from my desktop so I know it's somewhere ! My Elements 2022 is new install to me and I'm a little hesitant to start deleting .exe files . I don' know how to or if I should be disabling Elements 12. I was assuming that Elements 12 would be "overwritten or similar" by new install.

Jim

. . .  or perhaps you have been doing as Michel suggests.  And while I agree with Michel that it is better to use another method to import files into the Organizer, it is possible to use the Open With command in Windows.  If you really want to use that workflow, in the Open With . . . dialog, you can choose open with another app and navigate to the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Elements 2022 Organizer folder and select the PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe file.

And @Walter_H,  if you use the Open With the Organizer command in Windows, the file will be automatically imported into the catalog.  I was assuming this is not what the OP is doing, since that would mean that the file is imported from the memory card without being saved to the computer.  Obviously, this is not a good import workflow.  But perhaps Jim is trying to cull his memory card files before importing into the Organizer.

Does nothing for me. Tried it half a dozen times...

If I understand you correctly, you want the Adobe Photo Downloader to automatically open when you insert a memory card into your computer.  This should have happened automatically when you installed Elements 2022.  But if it did not, go to Windows>Settings>Devices>Autoplay.  Click on the Memory Card dropdown menu and you should have a choice to use the Elements 2022 Organizer.

[Note to Michel:  Interesting that the dropdown menu now lists the marketing name rather than the version number.  Hadn't noticed this before.]

Hi Jim, You can not do that. The organizer is not designed to directly open/view photos. Your photos must first be imported into the Organizer and then they can be viewed in the Organizer window.

Interesting...then I don't know why Elements 12, that I have been using for 8 years ,shows as an available default option currently in Windows 10 and in fact when I, as always ,clicked on a new photo ,Elements 12 Organizer automatically launches and the new photo (or photos) appear in the Organizer where I can save, edit etc. ?
Thanks
