Elements 2022 - There is a problem with Generator. Please quit Photoshop and try again.

Mac OS Monterey 12.6, using Elements Editor 2022. I had installed a plugin that seemes to have been incompatible with the editor. I get the "There is a problem with Generator. Please quit Photoshop and try again. If the problem persists, remove any third-party plug-ins or try reinstalling Photoshop" error message when I open the editor.

I have:

  1. Uninstalled ALL plugins
  2. Uninstalled my older versions of Elements (just in case)
  3. Restarted my Mac
  4. Reinstalled Elements
  5. As per the windows solution for photoshop, I checked my Privacy settings.
  6. Searched Google and this fourm without finding a suitable remedy.

I'm stumped, no idea how to get rid of this error.

Correct answer HCDOTON

I downloaded the cleaner. Started to run it, and it said "we recommend that you use the uninstaller first". That made sense, I had re-installed Elements without doing an uninstall first, so it was installing over the old location and probably not overwriting the files that needed to be fixed.

So, I ran the Elements uninstaller. Did a fresh install and activation of Elements ... and it works.

So, indirectly, the Cleanup Tool helped.

For future trouble-shooting, if you use the Shift key while launching the Editor, you can prevent all third-party plug-ins from loading.

Also, if you go to Help>System Info . . ., at the end of the list, you will find any problem plug-ins that failed to load.

In my experience, there are almost no Photoshop plug-ins that fail to work with Elements.  The only ones I can think of use Actions for commands that are not available in Elements.

You may need to use the Cleaner Tool:

or you may need to remove the plugin manually, or the plugin might have its own uninstaller.

Okay, I’ll try the cleaner tool. I did use the plugin uninstaller. Let’s
hope the cleaner tool gets things back to normal.

Which plugin?

It may only be compatible with Photoshop and not Photoshop Elements.

I removed ALL of the plugins. Plugins should no longer be a problem.
