My photo dowloader no longer shows thumbnails and looks like this

As an experiment, try setting the scalling to something like 125% and see if the Advanced Dialog button comes back.

It worked ! Thank you so much. as long as I keep the scaling  no higher than 225% , it was on 250% as recommended, the advanced dialog box appears.

Am delighted!!

What is the screen resolution of computer set to?

If i remember correctly it seems if your screen resolution is too low, the Advanced Dialog button won't show.

My Computer screen is "scale and layout " 250% (recommended) and the resolution is 3840 x2160 (recommended)

That is really odd.  It looks like you are in the Standard dialog, but there is no Advanced dialog button to switch back to the thumbnail view:

It also looks like the taskbar is covering over part of the downloader.  Do you have the Windows taskbar set to autohide?  If so, try turning that setting off.

You might also try to reset the preferences file. Go to the Edit>Preferences>General tab and click the Reset Preferences on next launch button.

If neither of those suggestions work, I think you may have to uninstall and reinstall the program.

I cannot see any button Reset Preferences on next launch. This is what Preferences general tab shows
