Elements 2025 mode selection unavailable

I just purchased Elements 2025 (coming from 2019). In my workspace, the bar where the mode selections resides is blacked out so I am stuck in quick mode. How do I access Expert mode?

OK, that makes sense.  What is the resolution of your monitor?

Please report back if Adobe Support is able to fix it.

So, I tried Chat Monday morning, but that is painfully slow - hate it. No resolution but at least a case was opened. Then I called and the person did not have the expertise but said they would call me back Tuesday. That didn't happen, but when I called they were able to log into my computer and make the necessary changes.

I don't have a precise description, but I have a 28" high-res 3:2 aspect ratio monitor and something about the program was not making the necessary changes in the DPI. Current compatability setting is "Override high DPI scaling behaviour. Scaling performed by System."  Thanks.

Give the switch in color mode a try.  IIRC, it was something simple like that.

I've seen this mentioned once or twice before with earlier versions but I have forgotten what the solution is.  So, let me throw out some possibilities:

  • The Advanced mode may still be available.  It's just that the tab is not showing.  Try clicking around in the area where the tab should be.
  • Make sure that you have the latest graphics driver installed.
  • Try clicking on the restore button at the top right of the Elements program window and resize the window.

  • Change the color mode of the UI from light to dark.  (It looks like it is stuck between the two.)  Press Ctrl+K to enter Preferences and make the change there.  You will need to relaunch the program after changing the preference.

  • Show us a screenshot of the Preferences>Performance dialog.  Try changing the setting of the  Graphics Processor box.  If you have more than one GPU, disable the Intel integrated GPU.

Please let us know if any of these work.

Thanks for the response and suggestions. I was able to access Expert mode by clicking where it should reside, black bar notwithsatanding.  I will try a chat tomorrow to resolve this.

I've moved your post from Photoshop to the Photoshop Elements forum
