Elements and Reader DC not responding

Both adobe reader dc and photoshop elements 11 have worked up until this week. Now, after about 30-60s and no matter what I do, they both freeze and do not respond. This is clearly preventing me from doing work, so is fairly urgent. I have Windows 10 Home (x64) 10.0.19042

Support has suggested I post my issue here. Actual help would be appreciated please.
