Elements backup painfully slow

Indeed, the backup process of the organizer is the most time consuming one for all users, but there are big differences depending on our different catalog compositions.

- Obviously, the number of items recorded in your catalog as well as the global size of your media library. To give you an idea, I just created a backup and also a restore of my library (80 000 items shown in the organizer, and 0.8 TB global size.

The backup time took a little more than 3 hours, same for the restore on another drive.

I also tried to use the Explorer for copying the whole resulting backup folder to another drive. That took more than 6 hours! So, the Organizer backup speed is not so bad and can be easily started for a night job even with a much bigger library.

- Another factor stressed by Greg with his much bigger library is the amount of videos, and more surprisingly, the amount of tiny xml files used for face recognition and the xmp sidecar files of raw files.

- I also use third party syncing softwares like Acronis or Microsoft Synctoy. Once the initial syncing is made, the time to sync a whole editing session is very short and takes care for the safety of my library. A simple copy of the catalog folder is equally fast. Since PSE 2023, the automatic catalog only backup is used at each end of session. The problem is with the restore of the catalog on a different drive:  the links in the restored/copied catalog are not updated and still point to the old absent drive.

This makes regular full backups and restore necessary also.

So can you give some description of your main catalog?
