Elements crashes when I try to print something.

Both my 2025 and 2020 versions of Adobe Photoshop Elements have started to crash as soon as I try to print a photograph. Any ideas?

Correct answer Greg_S.

Does this happen in the Editor, the Organizer or both?  What OS are you using?  Are you getting any error messages?

In the Editor, try resetting the preferences file. Go to the Edit>Preferences>General tab and click the Reset Preferences on next launch button.

If that doesn't fix the problem, try reinstalling your printer driver.

I wrestled with it for quite some time when I had this issue.  It has been quite a while, so hopefully I am remembering these steps correctly.  First completely uninstall “ALL” HP printer (and any other printer you have) drivers and software.  Reboot your PC.  Reset Photoshop Elements to defaults.  Hold Alt + Ctrl + Shift while launching PS Elements.  Click “yes” when it asks about restoring defaults (or whatever it says).  Close PS Elements. Reboot PC.  Install the “latest” drivers/software for your printer.  Make sure the printer is set to default printer.  Reboot PC if it doesn’t tell you to do so.  Now launch PS Elements, load an image, and try printing.  I have Elements 2022, 2024, and 2025.  All crashed, but all work now.  I hope 2021 is not too old?  If you’ve already tried all this, you can try uninstalling and re-install Elements or try out the latest demo.  It might be time for an upgrade.  Good luck!

Thanks for your help! I ended up with buying PSE 2026 and now I can print again 😀

@gogal2848 have you tried printing via the Organizer?  If you are having crashes with both the Editor and the Organizer, there is likely to be an issue with your installed printer drivers.  I would suggest removing all printer drivers from your computer and reinstalling just one.  Use the latest print driver from the manufacturer and don't rely on the Windows installed driver.  If you are able to print with one machine, add the second printer and see if this creates any crash problems.

@gogal2848,  I don't need to know what printers you have.  I need to know what problems you are having printing from them.

Does the problem happen in both the Editor and the Organizer?

Have you tried resetting the preferences?

Do you have Elements installed on both computers and which version of Elements are you using?

Have you installed each of the printer drivers on the new computer?

Are any of the printers wi-fi or connected by a network?

Are you getting any error messages?

Have you cleared the printer queue for each of the printers?

Yes, I have tried resetting preferences twice. PSE is on both computers (version 24). I do have version 25 on one computer but neither program will print.

Not sure how to clear the printer queue.

I can print succesfully from the organizer.

No error message pops up when I try to print from Editor - it just crashes.

The two Epson printers have a program that supposedly updates the printers. Beyond that, I'm clueless as to how to update the Brother printer.

Other programs work and print - I just don't know why Photoshop Elements doesn't.

I've got the same problem.  Recently Elements started to crash to the desktop as soon as I clicked on "print" from the dropdown file menu.  The organizer prints fine.  Tried returning Elements to defaults and rebooted everything twice.  I recently got a firmware update on my Epson ET-8550 printer and also Windows 11 updated recently.  However, only Photoshop Elements 2024 and 2025 crash.  I have tried printing with Paint Shop Pro and 3 other paint programs; they work fine.  I noticed the print function crash started after Adobe started popping up their upgrade to 2026 notice window.  I clicked on it, but decided not to buy the upgrade.  Makes me think Adobe is trying to make me upgrade by buggering up my print function.  I would hope not...

@gogal2848 you haven't give us enough information about your problem to make any educated guess.

I have a Brother (laser) 8360CDW, an Epson ET-376 and also an Epson F-170 (for sublimation). I have an older (Windows 10) printer upstairs and I can use PSE and i t prints but not on my main computer (Windows 11).

What if you havee three printers - would all three have to be updated or removed/reinstalled?
