Elements Editor suddenly running too slow

I've been a daily user of Elenemts 14 for 5 years. All of a sudden it started running/responding very slowly. So I downloaded a trial version of Elements 19. It also runs too slowly. This is on an iMac. Any suggestions about what is going wrong and how can I fix it.
