Elements Organizer 2023 hangs up during attempted backup

I have been using the Elements 2023 Organizer for a few weeks. I have never been able to complete a backup. I am trying to make a full backup to a new external drive. After completing all of the steps to start a backup, the I receive a "Please wait…" message.  Nothing else occurs. I have waited as long as three hours. If This version is unable to backup, perhaps I need to bite the bullet and use something else.

Make sure you have no missing files in your catalog. Go to Find>All missing files and see if any files show up. Once you have reconnected or deleted all missing files, Go to File>Manage Catalogs and Repair and optimize your catalog. 

There is no big secret about backing up the catalog. Like Monte, I usually just copy and paste the catalog folder to a backup location. Of course, this doesn't back up the media files. I do that in a separate operation.

I too have never been able to do a successful backup and restore using Elements 2023 Organizer backup routines. What does work for me is a filesystem copy/paste of the whole repository and catalog (see

Monte, Thanks for taking the time tp provide me with a solution to my problem. I'm a little paranoid after my experiences with the Elements 2023 Organizer. I have a recent (April) backup that I used to restore my catalog after I experienced a different problem with the Organizer. The restored catalog seems to be working fine. My concern is that since that last backup I have spent many hours tagging photos and done other pieces of maintence on the catalog. I am trying to come up with a solution that will enable me to backup that effort and continue use of the catalog. I contacted Adobe via chat today and so far, no solution.
