Elements Organizer 2023 unresponsive on launch

Elements Organizer 2023 was working earlier today.  Then stopped.

Now every launch the window looks like it is opening normally, but the window that appears is all black or all white, and Task Manager shows the process is not responding.

 

Of course I have tried to troubleshoot.

  • New Catalog
  • Repaired Catalog
  • Rename psa.prf
  • Rename status.dat
  • Reset Online (OLS rename)
  • Clear Cache
  • uninstall/reinstall
  • Log.txt has no errors (uploaded all logs)
  • Verified Windows and Graphics card are up to date.
  • rebooted

 

The editor still works, just not the Organizer.  No plugins added.

I did install Handbrake 1.6.1 and the supporting libraries between the time Organizer worked and didn't.  That has been removed.  I am very compute savvy, and 3 hours later no luck.  I just wanted to tag some photos and videos I had added earlier.

 

Support chat ended the conversation with no person on the other end every seeing it.  I guess I have to keep typing in the chat to keep it alive.

 

Any ideas?

Restored the original videos and Elements Organizer still remained unresponsive.

Created yet another Catalog with a longer name (Another Test Catalog) and Elements Organizer suddenly started working.

 

Opened my original catalog, and Organizer worked still.  Added the updated videos back in, and restarted Elements Organizer, and it still works.

Reinstalled Handbrake and Elements Organizer continues to work.

 

This is a mystery.

Out of curiosity, did you happen to perform this week's Windows Update before the Organizer failed?

What else could possibly have changed on your computer?  New program installed, new hardware, etc.?

 

I suggest you contact Adobe Support to resolve the issue.  With your permission, they can take control of your computer and try to figure out the problem. You can start a chat session by clicking on the blue Contact Us button under the Help & Support menu at Adobe.com.

The new Windows update went in AFTER the Organizer failed.

I tried to use the Support Chat box last night and they closed the chat
without anyone connecting, I guess I need to type constantly until someone
arrives. I may do this next week when I have hours to spend typing into a
chat box during the daytime hours.

The new software (Handbrake) was already documented in the original post
and uninstalled.

One change I am considering is I replaced 4 videos that were imported into
the Organizer with a better color version just before the Organizer
failure. I will put the originals back and see if the processing of faces
is causing the issue. I can't disable that process because Elements
Organizer can't open. I doubt this is the issue as Elements Organizer
can't open with an empty catalog.

Press the Shift key while launching the Organizer.  That will take you to the Manage Catalogs dialog.  Create a new catalog and see if the program will open with it selected.

That was in the list of things already done.

The organizer hangs opening new albums.

Uninstall/reinstall. If you also have Premiere Elements installed, you need to uninstall that program too. Otherwise the Organizer won't be uninstalled.

Both were uninstalled, then a reboot, then both installed, the Organizer still will not open.

Ideas?
