Elements organizer import failed

My Elements 12 has worked perfectly for years. Recently when attempting to import photos from a card reader I now get an "Elements Organizer Import Failed" window and a "The files or folders selected to import did not contain any supported file types or the files already exist in this catalog" window. I have done nothing different than previously. How can I correct this problem. It also does not allow me to delete any pictures with "Cannot delete picture (media)". It also does not accept pictures from my scanner. Any help would be appreciated.
