Elements Organizer won't let me display photos outside of thumbnails

Hello!

I am very new to the Photoshop Elements community.  I imported a bunch of photos and can see them just fine in the "Grid" view of my Organizer, but when I double-click to look at any particular photo, all I get is a grey screen.  If I move my mouse around on that screen I can see the names of the persons in the photo, but not the photo itself.

I am using Elements on a Mac and am on Mac OS Monterey, 12.3.1.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!
