Elements Photo downloader duplicates

I have recently experienced a problem with importing photos into Elements 14. The downloader is not recognising duplicates like it used to. I have not changed any settings but I note that the Date field in Metdata is being changed to the time of Import. The original date remains the same. Therefore it does not recognise the file as duplicate, I think. This is happening with my existing catalog and a new one created for testing. I don"t recall this happening before I did 2 things, first i moved my catalog to a different drive to save space. I have all the photos on a separate drive. I have also installed a trial of Lightroom which used the Elements catalog but has since been removed. This happens on 2 different cameras. Hope anyone can help.

    Hi Steve,

Can you please try to import media with following settings:

    - Set the 'Rename Files' to 'Do not rename files'.

    - Set the template to use as 'None'.

Now verify if duplicate detection works or not.

Actually Adobe Photodownloader (APD) duplicate detection algorithm uses Shot date, filename and file size as parameters to judge whether a file is duplicate or not. So when you rename a file or change its size (by appending metadata), duplicate detection algorithm may not detect those files as duplicate. Please let me know if there are any queries.

    Hi Surendra

Thank you for the help, changing the template worked. This action explains the Metadata difference and the size difference. Now it works well.

    Thanks
