I have Elements 5 installed on my Windows 7 pc (64 bit) would the Elements 2018 Upgrade version work or should I uninstall the ancient version and start again?

The 'upgrade' only means a special price for people already having a registered older version of Elements. The Elements 2018 version is an independent software which can run alongside your old PSE5.

You don't need to uninstall the old version at all if you prefer to keep it.

If you want to 'convert' your old catalog, have a look at this recent post:

Thank you for clearing this up, I did not use the catalogue so I will be able to use the newer software with no problems (I hope). thank you again.
