error when trying to type text

Hi I'm trying to open a new file (or use an existing one) and type text on it and get a program error . any idea why? or how to deal with it?

Which version of PSE?

Are you using the Horizontal Type tool in Editor, not the Horizontal Type Mask tool?

When you engage the tool and attempt to type, does a new layer show up in the Layers palette?

On the Type tool's option bar, look for a rectangular icon and click to reset the tool

If that does not fix it, reset preferences. Go Edit>Preferences>General and reset on next launch. Close the program and reopen.
