Everything freezes when outline the subject using the advanced mode

I am trying to use raw to edit my photos and am on a HP. I can outline the subject using the “quick” version, but not the advanced. Then everything freezes. I shut down the program and have to start over, but it still does the same thing. I have tried several versions of alternatives and the same thing happens. I am close to returning the product. Photoshop Elements 2026

    Can you be more specific about what you mean by outlining?  Do you mean selecting using the Quick Selection tool.  If you are then talking about using other selection tools that don’t work, then I am guessing that you have opened the photo in 16 bit mode.  If this is the case, you will see (RGB/16) at the end of the file name tab:

     

    In order to work with all of the editing tools, you will need to change the file to 8 bit.  Go to Edit>Mode and click on 8 Bits/Channel:

     

     

    Next time when you are in the ACR (raw file) editor,  change the mode to 8 bits in the dropdown at the bottom of the window.  This setting will remain sticky whenever you open raw files in the future.

    It sounds like this could be related to your Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), but I’d like to gather a bit more information to be sure.

     

    Could you share your System Info? You can find it by going to Help > System Info in Photoshop Elements.

     

    Also, were you able to submit a crash report, or did you see any specific error message when the program crashed?

    I cannot get a hold of adobe support . Whenever I type in option 3, it thanks me for using adobe and hangs up. I have tried using sales, billing, cancellation, and support - all with the same result.
