file already exists but not found

I tried ingesting a file named IMG_2197.MOV, and got the message '...already present in the catalog'.  I do a Find By Filename IMG_2197.MOV and nothing is found.  I then tried to Optomize the Catalog and it crashes.  I presume the catalog is corrupt but see no way forward given the optomize crashes.  Any ideas greatly appreciated.

    What MacOS are you using? Sonoma does not play nicely with prior versions of Elements.  I know nothing about Macs, so can't even give you a guess whether this is a related problem.  You can try contacting Adobe Support and see if they can help you fix the catalog.  Do you have a recent backup you could use?

    I'm using the latest Sonoma.  My backups have also crashed since upgrading to a Mac with their new M2 chip.  I wonder if PE2024 has addressed these bugs.
