File Structure Problem?

I have Photo Shop Elements 15 (Video, Organizer, Photo Sop) installed on my SSD HD on my Mac Pro.  When I did the initial install I tried to customized all the photo, video, music files, catalog, & catalog backup onto a Thunderbolt HD called HD3.  My file structure looks like this:

HD3

B000000.cache

B00..001

B00..002

B00..3.json

B00..3.xmp

3000 of these files in the root of HD3( the files are a mixtures of .json ; .xmp; jpg, mov, psd

     Adobe Organizer Media Catalog

     Layouts

     Movies

     Music

     Pictures

End of File Structure

My problem is with the 3000 files at the root level so that I can not just close a folder with them in it, since when I access my media in organizer its path is:

HD3/movies or HD3/pictures etc.  So I would like to put these 3000 plus file in a folder on HD3 one step below  the root level of HD3 but do not want to mess things up since they appear to be working correctly......Any help would be appreciated.....Pat O'Brien

How did you try? Could you describe your steps?

What you are describing is the result of a faulty organizer backup.

What you should know about organizer backups:

- backups are stored in a single folder containing renamed media and accessory files and various subfolders.

- the backup folders are to be stored preferably on an external drive

- the backup folder should not be on the root folder of the external drive

- Only the 'Restore' command of the organizer can make use of the backup folders. They are not for your own use and they are not simple copies of your folder structure.

So, to guide you further, you need to give us details about what you want to achieve and how you tried to do it.

Michel,   Thanks for your thoughtful reply.  My Thunderbolt drive is an external dual disk (2 TB/disk) 4 TB drive that i have partitioned into HD1, HD2,HD3 of 1.33 TB each.  What I had hoped to due is place all my graphics/media files for the Organizer Elements 15, Premier Elements 15, Photoshop Elements 15 on HD3 and also put the Organizer Backup on HD3.  My problem is that the backup files are at the root level.  Can I simply create a new folder on HD3 that is below the root level and do a new backup to that folder & then erase these 3000 loose files @ the root level?  Thanks again for you thoughts & help.   Pa O'Brien

Yes, I think that should solve your problem.

The backup folder can be anywhere else and you can copy or move it where you want. The catalog folder can also be moved or copied elsewhere ('custom' location).

Generally it's not recommended to store a backup on the same physical drive for best speed and it's recommended to store the backup on a different external drive stored in another location for best safety (fire, stealth, drive crash...)
