Has the Places function improved in Elements 14, 15 or 2018?

I have always found the map view in all the editions of Elements up to 12 very disappointing. Nowhere near as easy and user-friendly as Apple's Photo software, for example. At best its been clunky but now my Places function won't work at all and just shows a map of Sheffield wherever in the world the photo was taken!.

I can't understand why Adobe doesn't improve the way in which photos are displayed on Google maps and make the whole operation much more slick. So I'm wondering whether by any chance there has been an improvement since Elements 12. Much of the pleasure in viewing photos for me is as a record of places visited and I might have to desert Elements, which I like very much otherwise, and use Apple's Photos if there's no improvement..

I would certainly buy an update if this map feature were improved. In the meantime, using Elements 12, I have some recent photos taken in Prague. Instead of constantly reverting to Sheffield as was the case a few days ago, the photos are arranging their location, but no map is actually showing, however long I wait.

Adobe blames Google for breaking the map function in versions previous to 15. I just got 2018. The selected photo does not highlight in the map as you've shown above. I need to make a video of how useless this function seems to be now. It's like they change things without actually getting feedback from users?

I'll see what I can do as far as feedback goes. Maybe someone will listen.

If there's a way of getting feedback from Adobe, I'd like to add my voice to yours. Do you know how to go about making the case? We seem to be two lone voices at the moment!

I think it's gotten worse since version 11. I think, and my memory may be poor, but I used to be able to click on a photo and it would take me right to a location. Perhaps I'm not using the function correctly in 2018, which I just installed, but when I click on a photo with embedded GPS data, I have to manually navigate in the Google Map frame to get to the location. It's incredibly tedious and renders the ability near unusable. Perhaps I'm doing this wrong, and I would welcome an expert to instruct me on how this could become less user-intensive.

Thank you for this helpful reply. It confirms my fears. I find it incredible that the designers of an expensive and otherwise very appealing piece of software should still, after years, not have ensured that this facility runs smoothly and helpfully. I too would welcome an Adobe employee's opinion on this.

I'm also mystified that there haven't been more people commenting over the years on this failure

I use the Places feature for work mostly. I'll visit 20 sites within a metro area, take pictures with GPS data, and sort through them later. I think in version 11 not only would I be able to find where I took the picture easily, but it would show me the direction I was facing. That can't be right... but that's what I remember.

Right now, I've got 1200 pictures south of San Antonio. When I'm looking in the Media pane, I should be able to right click on a photo and have it "take me" to the location, if GPS data is available. I found that there are some photos that don't have data built in and that's something I'll have to resolve myself. I'll report back as I would really like to zero in on what I would like this function to do. Maybe Adobe is listening, but I know whatever feedback I give, if it's incorporated, would force me to have to purchase yet another copy of this software. Oh well.
