HEIC views completly differently to JPEG

Were he still alive and on the beat today, it's hard to imagine Ansel Adams would be a fan of HEIC.  This latest craze seems focused primarily on preserving more detail than jpg's and in an even smaller space.  I admit to my ignorance on the finer points; I'm not even close to what might be considered a good photographer nor am I any sort of authority on this topic, so help me out if I'm wrong.  It just seems to me that the size of an image file is far less important than the preservation of all the information contained in it.  In my ignorance, my conclusion is that HEIC might be the preferred option for storing files on cell phones, but a raw format, ie: DNG, is far superior for all stripes of photographers using a computer use with plenty of HD space and a capable editor like PSE.

Spent some time testing more photos and I actually prefer the JPGS view when looking at scenery as the colours pop more. It is people that look much better when viewing the HEIC in elements as skins tones are much better...
