HELP! Elements 2025-MacbookPro “save as” in Editor it is DUPLICATING image due to lowercase JPG name

Hello,

I've searched for this solution and watched YouTube videos - but can't seem to fix this.  I have thousands of very large JPEG images/(Nikon D850) to edit from a trip.  I just uploaded Elements 2025 on a new MacBook Pro.  After using the Editor (quick) (Not the instant Fix), I am using "Save As" to save the photo because I want it to override the original image. In the "Save As" box the Save "as a copy" is NOT checked (I already changed that in preferences.)  In the "Save As" box, I UNclick the "save in version set with original".

I have noticed that the original images are saved/named as Africa_1234.JPG

When I use "Save as" the image comes up in the box named as Africa_1234.jpg (lowercase)....

This is causing it to save a DUPLICATE image--one with jpg and the other one with JPG

IF in the Save As window I go and type over the .jpg (lowercase) with .JPG (uppercase) - it solves the problem and saving the images does NOT create a duplicate.  BUT....This is a real pain to have to type over the image name each time.  Can anyone think of a fix?  It would save me HOURS!!!  Thank you in advance.

Your screenshots are from the 2025 Elements Organizer.

The setting that Greg_S. is referring to is in the Adobe Photoshop Elements 2025 Editor under

Adobe Photoshop Elements 2025 Editor>Settings>Saving Files>File Extension

I know nothing about Macs.  But in Windows, in the Edit>Preferences>Saving Files dialog, there is a preference to use upper or lower case letters for the file extension.
