Help! I am using Guided Black and White and my selection Brush won't apply right levels of B&W

Hi There, hoping someone can help. I am using Elements 2021 and I use the Guided Section a lot.  I especially am having issues with when I am "painting the background" black and White.  I use it a lot and it is usually fine but for some reason now when I select the black and white selection brush and "paint" the selected area, the black and white is very very faint, not dark enough.  I don't know who to fix this and don't want to keep going over the area, but the impact of applying black and white is almost absent now.  any one out there know how to fix this?

Hi Shaelynne,

What you need to do is adjust the opacity of the B&W Detail Brush using a keyboard shortcut.

Opacity is measured as a percentage - use the number keys along the top of your keyboard to change the opacity, e.g. 1 = 10%, 2 = 20%, 3 = 30%... up to 0 = 100%. Press two number keys very quickly one after another to get more precise numbers, e.g 5 and then 5 again = 55%.

I think in your case you just need to press 0 to get your B&W Detail Brush back to "normal", i.e. 100%. Of course, changing the opacity in this way might allow you to be even more creative 🙂

You might also want to look at the Shift + [ and Shift + ] shortcuts that affect how hard or soft the brush is too 🙂

Hope that helps 🙂

Most of the time it's due to the brushes opacity setting- see he image below...

Yeah I have tried that. The detailed brush doesn’t have a opacity setting in guided for black and white selection. The detailed brush is 1-2 tones lighter than main selection brush

Hi , I've moved your post from the Photoshop forum to the Photoshop Elements forum where you are more likely to get help with your issue.
