Help: why can't I can't save files with Elements 2018

OK, so I downloaded and installed Photoshop Elements 2018 when prompted this morning. Now I can't save anything! No mater how the files is opened or what I try to do with it. All I keep getting is a message that says "The operation could not be completed. The system cannot find the path specified."

What gives?

    From Expert mode try:

    File >> Save As

    Then choose a specified folder

    Alas, same thing happens in Expert mode (and doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of having a Quick mode anyway?).

    BTW, I get the error message BEFORE I'm even prompted to specify a file path.

    What computer & operating system?
