How do I paste something into the same place in a different photo?

I have a logo in the upper left corner on a transparent background (the whole image is 1200 x 1200, the logo is much smaller than that). I also have a photo of a pair of shoes I am selling (also 1200 x 1200) and want to paste the logo into the photo so it's always in the exact same spot for all of my products for sale.

I selected the entire logo image and copied. Then I selected the entire image of my shoes and clicked paste into selection. Still, my logo is placed in the center of the image, not in the corner. What am I doing wrong here? I am a Photoshop noob and really appreciate the help!

Correct answer hatstead

You could go through the process once, but don’t flatten the layers.

Save as a psd file. This will preserve the layers.

Reopen this file and substitute the the original shoe layer with another shoe layer.

This should work if the dimensions and the resolution remain constant.

I found the solution. Copying the transparent background with logo, and clicking file + place on my second image!

    You are my hero. Thank you for sharing this solution! I've had exactly the same problem, and the other solutions above are too cumbersome for my projects. This one is flexible and works every time without a lot of unnecessary steps!

    1. As I understand it, the logo is already on a transparent background. Go to Select>all, the Edit>copy to place the logo on the clipboard.
    2. Open the image with the shoes, then Edit>paste. The logo will come in on a separate layer.
    3. Activate the move tool, and position the logo to suit.
    4. The layer with the shoes should be the Background layer, and the logo should be above this.

    Thank you for your answer. Unfortunately I am I looking for an option that will not involve me moving the logo by hand because on all my photos they will be placed slightly differently which I would like to avoid.
