How do we Import and store photos in 15 in chronological order ?

When you install Elements 15 all the photos you import are listed on the left hand of the screen as photos you took on a certain day in no particular order and indeed the dates are shown in various formats just to make it confusing.  Elements 10 imported and stored photos in chronological order so that it was easy to go back and find photos taken at different events.  Tagging those photos came as secondary filing. I take photos at Rotary Meetings and need to go back in date order of those meetings.  Am I right to assume that date (or chronological order) is the right primary method of sorting.  Event sorting should surely be secondary?

    Hi John,

    There are various ways in which you can view the media files in the grid by sorting them based on the options available in the Sort By dropdown list.

    Choose from the following display options in Sort By:

    Import Batch Displays media files in the batches in which they were imported and shows how the media files were imported.

    Newest  Displays the most recently taken or imported media files first. (Within a given day, the media files are shown in the order they were taken, oldest first, unless otherwise specified in the Preferences dialog box.) Newestfirst order is convenient when you attach tags to the media files that you imported.

    Oldest Displays media files in the order of the date stamp, the oldest imported files based on date are displayed first.

    Name Displays media files in alphabetical order of name.

    You can use on of the above options as per your suitability.

    indeed the dates are shown in various formats just to make it confusing.

    You can control the format of dates from Preferences (Ctrl/Cmd + K) :

    Also in the above screenshot the Date (Newest First) option controls the sorting order of photos within a date.

    Elements 10 imported and stored photos in chronological order

    That's false, or at best an illusion.

    In any software (including PSE10), the import reads the files to import in the sort order of your OS, and writes each file randomly in a free space of your drive. You don't know if they are stored in a given sort order criteria. So, the job of your OS and your application is to help you see those randomly situated files (or 'chunks' of files... defragmentation) in the order you want to see them; that's made by creating indexes. Your OS can use dozens of sort orders. For chronological dates, Windows has more that ten sort orders available.

    Elements 15 is far more flexible for those choices than Elements 10 as clearly explained by Arshla.

    Thank you for your comments, which really don’t answer what I waas driving at! Yes I can see that the files imported appear to be in chronological order on the day taken, (but still getting duplicates!) On the left hand side of the screen the column of dates are indexed in different methods of showing the date and hence the pictures shot on that day. How can you get that list to show them all in the same format so that it is easier to say “I want to see the slides I took on, say, the 15thSeptember, 2009? The stack of dates would all then be in the same format and it would be easier to find the slides one wanted! I can’t work that one out, although I note that Sony’s filing system, Playmemories Home, uses the same system of filing dates so I must be missing something obvious! I suppose that I have got used to Elelments 10 where there are quick clicks to change the picture format size – ie “imported size” ( a screen full){like a tray of slides} then medium size to work on and the full screen for slide show. I note that full screen is in the drop down menu now. Thank you,. but pity of pitys you have not cured picture duplication! Can you please explain how to get rid of them or better still tell me how to prevent them coming in the first place. I still think that Elements 10’s presentation – like a tray of 35mm slides was more elegant! I suppose that you will tell me that that is an option?
