Question

How easy is it to upgrade from Photoshop Elements 6 to Photoshop Elements 2018 on iMac

Hi everyone,

I've had Photoshop Elements 6 for years, and I've mainly used it to add a layer of text to note copyright on my illustrations. For some reason, Photoshop 6 has decided to stop working this month (even though it was working last month). Now, I can't even open a folder to open a folder to get to my illustrations (jpegs). I have some questions:

  • Is there a way to fix this or do I need to upgrade to the latest version of Photoshop Elements?
  • I assume that I need to upgrade. Is that the best solution?
  • My iMac macOS High Sierra 10.13.3. Will Photoshop Elements 2018 work with this operating system?
  • How steep is the learning curve for what I need (adding/placing layers, resizing images)?

Any help/advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Melissa

Yes:

If you are able to do those things in version 6, you won't have a problem with version 2018.

Download the trial and find out for yourself:

Not clear on what you mean here. Sounds like an operating system issue rather than Photoshop Elements.

What exactly happens when you try to open a folder?

Yes. High Sierra (10.13) is a supported operating system.

Very hard to answer a subjective question objectively.

Best to download and install the trial version. You can use it for free for up to 30 days before you have to buy it.

Hi John,

Thanks for your response. To clarify the folder problem: When I open Photoshop Elements 6, and I go to File to open a document, I have the option to open "Recent Places" folders or a different folder. I am able to open folders (and images within those folders) that are listed under "Recent Places" but not when I go to open any other folders. When I click on any other folder (not listed under "Recent Places"), nothing happens. My iMac is new and everything was working fine in February, but not now, so I'm not sure what has changed. A software update didn't make a difference.

Thanks,

Melissa
